LPA Registration Fees Increasing From November - Why Now Is The Time to Get Your Lasting Power of Attorney in Place

Written by Amy Peters | Oct 6, 2025 3:34:06 PM

From November 2025, the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) will be increasing the registration fees for Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPAs). If you’ve been thinking about putting an LPA in place, now is the perfect time to act before these changes come into effect.

At Beneficial Family Wills, we believe that everyone deserves peace of mind knowing their affairs — and their loved ones — are protected, whatever the future holds.

What Is a Lasting Power of Attorney?

An LPA is a legal document that allows you to appoint trusted individuals (known as attorneys) to make important decisions on your behalf if you’re ever unable to do so yourself.

There are two types of LPA, each serving a vital purpose:

  1. Property and Financial Affairs LPA
This allows your attorneys to manage your finances — paying bills, managing bank accounts, and even dealing with property or investments. It ensures your money and assets are handled exactly as you would wish.
  2. Health and Welfare LPA
This covers personal matters such as medical treatment, care preferences, and living arrangements. It only comes into effect if you lose mental capacity, ensuring your wishes are respected when it matters most.

Why You Should Get Your LPA in Place Now

Many people put off arranging an LPA, thinking they’ll “get around to it later.” But life is unpredictable, and once someone loses mental capacity, it’s too late to set one up.

Getting your LPAs arranged before the fee increase means:

  • You’ll avoid paying higher registration costs.
  • You’ll gain immediate peace of mind knowing your plans are secure.
  • Your loved ones will be protected from the stress and expense of applying to the Court of Protection in the future.
